When is the best time to visit Burundi?
The best period to visit Burundi for coffee origin activities is between April and November. Below is an overview of what typically takes place during the season:
APRIL THROUGH JULY
Harvest Season
Visitors can witness farmers harvesting cherries in the hills and observe coffee processing at the washing stations, from cherry selection through fermentation and drying.
AUGUST THROUGH SEPTEMBER
Community & Project Engagement
This period is ideal for visiting ongoing initiatives such as the Coffee Kids Camp, Farmer Field School (FFS), and the Composting Project.
JULY THROUGH NOVEMBER
Cupping & Milling
Cupping sessions continue as additional lots become available. Visitors interested in post-harvest operations may also tour the Dry Mill to observe final processing prior to export.
DECEMBER & JANUARY
QUIET SEASON
Field and processing activities are minimal during this time.
FEBRUARY & MARCH
Preparation Period
This phase is primarily focused on internal preparations for the upcoming harvest.
How many visitors can LMC host at once?
LMC is able to host multiple visitors at the same time. To date, we have successfully accommodated up to six visitors simultaneously, and based on that experience, we are confident in our ability to host even more when needed.
Regarding our bungalows, we have a total of four rooms across two houses, with each house containing two rooms. If visitors prefer not to share rooms, we can comfortably accommodate four guests. However, when room sharing is possible, we can host more than four visitors.
What do i need to do to prepare for my visit?
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for all travelers over 9 months to 1 year of age entering Burundi. Recommended vaccinations include Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Typhoid, along with routine vaccines (MMR, Tdap). Malaria is a significant risk, requiring prophylactic medication. All travelers able to provide the necessary vaccination certificates.
